The Forestside Shopping Centre was opened in 1997 and is an asset to the area. It provides chemists, phone shops, cafes, high street clothing brands, and jewellers to name but a few. Since its opening in 1997 Forestside has underwent significant changes and is now at full capacity. In 2006 Marks & Spencer invested £8 million on remodelling and expanding their Forestside store, and building a multi-storey car park. Further to Forestside, Newtownbreda has had its very own Tesco Extra since 2007. Newtownbreda Tesco opens for 24-hours 4 days during the week, and provides a vast grocery selection including Polish, Afro Caribbean and Asian, amongst other services such as a clothing collection, a phone shop, travel money exchange and a petrol station.
There is no shortage of local schools, both primary and secondary to the residents of Newtownbreda. Nearby, there are some of Northern Ireland's leading primary, grammar and secondary schools.
Newtownbreda has clear transport links to Belfast city centre, as well as the outskirts of the city, so travelling to and from work or school is made hassle-free. This is made even easier by the efficient public transport service that is in operation for the residents of Newtownbreda. The recently refurbished Ivanhoe Hotel has been affiliated with the area since the 19th century. The hotel has consciously been through major renovations in recent years, transforming the hotel into a modern, comfortable hotel. The stylish bedrooms prove a major hit with the large turn-around of guests. Easily commutable from the Belfast City and Belfast International airports, the Ivanhoe provides an excellent base for tourists, holiday-makers and weekends away.
